About MeKatie Speed is a theatre educator and teaching artist. She received a BA in Theatre Education from Emerson College in 2012 and an MA in Applied Theatre: Drama in the Community and Drama Education from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London in 2013. In the fall of 2014, Ms. Speed joined the Penn Residency Masters in Teaching program through the University of Pennsylvania and became a Teaching Fellow in Theater at Deerfield Academy. This portfolio represents a culmination of the work for the PRMT program.

Part I |
In Part I: Program Competencies, Ms. Speed analyzes the influence of the pedagogy, literature, and practicum of the PRMT program on the following areas of her teaching practice: designing and implementing effective lessons, providing effective feedback, accounting for difference in the classroom, building relationships with colleagues, and understanding the history and culture of boarding schools. Part II |
In Part II: Inquiry Project, Ms. Speed asks, "How can I increase intrinsic motivation in a theatre class?" Over the course of a year, Ms. Speed implemented interventions centered around the concept of autonomy, competence, and purpose as central facets of intrinsic motivation. She analyzes the data collected on three students to determine if these interventions were successful in increasing their intrinsic motivation to succeed in her class.
